Science is girls’ stuff
This morning the Emakumeak Zientzian project, which has been growing year on year, was presented by seventeen Basque organizations. They confirmed their commitment to the objectives of the initiative: to make the activity of women in science visible, to break with the typically male roles attributed to scientific and technical activities, and to encourage girls and teenagers to choose scientific careers. With these objectives in mind, the organizations are coming together to run a joint program of activities to mark International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is celebrated every year on February 11.
CIC nanoGUNE is awarded a project to investigate amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
The Spanish Foundation for the Promotion of Research into Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (FUNDELA) has awarded CIC nanoGUNE, a project to conduct research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), in collaboration with the ALS laboratory of the 12 de Octubre Hospital - “i+12” and the Genetics Service of the Ramón y Cajal-IRYCIS Hospital, belonging to the Center for Biomedical Research Network on Rare Diseases (CIBERER).
Emakumeak Zientzian goes on adding to itself
Through the signing of a new collaboration agreement seventeen Basque organizations are joining forces around the Emakumeak Zientzian project, thus declaring their commitment to the objectives of the initiative: to make the activity of women in science visible, to break with the typically male roles attributed to scientific and technical activities, and to encourage girls and adolescents to choose scientific careers. With these objectives in mind, the organizations are coming together to run a joint program of activities to mark International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is held every year on February 11.
More women in science
The research centers Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), CIC nanoGUNE, Materials Physics Center (CFM CSIC-UPV/EHU), CIC biomaGUNE, Biodonostia, Tecnun-School of Engineers, Ceit, POLYMAT, Elhuyar, the Faculty of Informatics of the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque Country and Eureka! Zientzia Museoa (Science Museum) have come together to present a joint program to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science scheduled for 11 February across the world. From that day onwards and in Donostia/San Sebastian the program Emakumeak Zientzian 2021 will be run throughout the month of February with workshops, public talks, family experiments, virtual visits, etc. largely adapted to the virtual format due to the health emergency. The initiative aims to make the activity of women in science visible, to break down the typically masculine roles attributed to scientific and technical activities, and to encourage girls and teenagers to opt for careers in science. Emakumeak Zientzian 2021 is being supported by the Chartered Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Fomento San Sebastián, the National Research Council (CSIC) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
NanoGUNE, the big challenge of the small
The book "NanoGUNE, txikiaren xarma" dealing with the setting-up and development of the CIC nanoGUNE research center from its very beginnings has just been presented this morning at nanoGUNE. The book sets out to explain to the general public how cutting-edge research is conducted in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. How does “the big challenge of the small” materialize on a day-to-day basis? How can a truly innovative, daring project come to fruition? The story answers this question.
The "emakumeak Zientzian" initiative, recognized with the STEAM Euskadi seal
