Researchers from the Nanodevices Group at CIC nanoGUNE demonstrate that they can control the polarization direction of a spin current without having to apply a magnetic field, which could aid in implementing energy-efficient spintronics devices. The work has been published in Physical Review Letters.

NanoGUNE has registered as a member of a new international platform: The Innovation Network for Advanced Materials (INAM).

The European Patent Office (EPO) has nominated former nanoGUNE researcher Marco Donolato as finalist in the "Research" category of the European Inventor Award 2021 for its invention “Magnetic nanoparticles to diagnose disease”, a patent registered in collaboration with nanoGUNE Ikerbasque Research Professor Paolo Vavassori and Professor Mikkel Fougt-Hansen, from Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The invention led to the creation of a novel testing device which detects infectious diseases within minutes, enabling medical staff to begin treatment immediately and potentially saving millions of lives in countries struggling with diseases such as dengue fever.

Mathias Charconnet, early stage researcher of the Nanoengineering Group at nanoGUNE, has defended his PhD thesis Today at the University of the Basque Country. 

Andoni Rodriguez-Abetxuko got the best PhD talk award in the Next Generation of Biocatalysis Symposium that took place in Bern & virtually on 27-28 May 2021. 

The Indian Mayank Sharma and the Irish Eoin Dolan will join the SPEAR project at the Nanodevices Group, which seeks to explore new materials for the next generation of computer memories and processors.

Jabier Larrañaga, Deputy for Economic Promotion, Tourism and the Rural Environment, and Jon Gurrutxaga, Director of Innovation and Internationalization of the Gipuzkoa Council, have been invited Today to learn about the high-level research and development that we carry out at nanoGUNE. 

Dr. Lorenzo Fallarino, researcher in CIC nanoGUNE´s Nanomagnetism group, has been recently invited by the Editorial Board of Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics to publish a Topical Review on "Graded Magnetic Materials" and separately, he was nominated to contribute to a special issue of the journal highlighting the accomplishments of Emerging Leaders in the field of Applied Physics. Both invited articles have now been published.

Ikerbasque researcher Fèlix Casanova, leader of CIC nanoGUNE's Nanodevices group, has recently been awarded with the Intel´s 2020 Outstanding Researcher Award, for his contributions in a disruptive technology for the electronics of the future: MESO technology.

Researchers from CIC nanoGUNE in collaboration with the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and the University of Oviedo employed a spectroscopic nanoimaging technique to study how infrared nanolight - in form of phonon polaritons - and molecular vibrations interact with each other. The work appears now on Nature Photonics cover.
