The Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center, CIC nanoGUNE, located in Donostia / San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), is currently looking for a

 

PRE-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

to work on

Computational condensed matter physics

 

NanoGUNE is a research center devoted to conducting world-class nanoscience research for a competitive growth of the Basque Country. NanoGUNE is a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) and is recognized by the Spanish Research Agency as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence.

The position is hosted by the Theory group at Nanogune, San Sebastian, Spain, http://www.nanogune.eu , supervised by Emilio Artacho (e.artacho@nanogune.eu) https://www.phy.cam.ac.uk/directory/artachoe , within a larger project involving the SIESTA development team and researchers from the nearby DIPC and CFM-MPC research institutes.

The research project will be in the field of nanostructured and low dimensional quantum materials with possible application to quantum technologies and to radiation resilience for space exploration. It will involve theoretical and computational developments.

 

The successful candidate should have a Bologna Masters degree or equivalent (at least five years of university education) in physics, theoretical chemistry or related fields, which should include basic knowledge of quantum, statistical and condensed matter physics. Computational skills including basic programming will be highly valued, and a good level of English, in speaking and writing, is required.
