Low-energy radiation dosimetry from a density functional theory approach

Who: Jacques-Louis Guerda Massilon (Associate Professor, UNAM, Mexico)

Place: nanoGUNE seminar room, Tolosa Hiribidea 76, Donostia - San Sebastian

Lithium fluoride (LiF) is one of the typical alkali fluorides that has been extensively studied for years. Mg and Ti-doped LiF is also the most common thermoluminescent (TL) dosimeter used in several applications. Nevertheless, despite many years of research, the basic processes that give rise to the TL-response induced by low-energy radiation fields are still not well understood. In this seminar, we will present electronic structure calculations of defect states induced by Mg and Ti interstitials or Mg-substitute in LiF as well as the localization of secondary electrons produced during the radiation interaction using first-principles.
